Academic Module 4: Listening/Watching and Note-Taking

20 Listening and Taking Notes from Videos and E-Tutorials

These days, technology is becoming inseparable from how information is taught and learned. Take this z-course, for instance, where all the course materials have been made available via technology. The more you advance in your academic and professional careers, the more likely it is going to be that you will need to use technology, including in terms of watching videos and tutorials and taking notes.

The strategies for taking notes based on videos and tutorials are similar to those listed in the previous chapter. However, there is one critical advantage that you have when you watch videos and e-tutorials–you may pause, go back, go forward, etc. as much as you want. In addition, you may be able to use captions to make it easier to understand the material presented. Additionally, if the videos and e-tutorials include infographics or graphs, you can use the strategies taught throughout this ebook to analyze the information and add to your notes. Finally, if you use technology to take notes, such as on a laptop, you may be able to use online tools and apps to create and organize your notes. The possibilities are endless.
