Mapping Inequality in Our Society

Introduction
You are a part of a global effort to increase access to education and empower students through “open pedagogy.” Open pedagogy is a “free access” educational practice that places you – the student – at the center of your own learning process in a more engaging, collaborative learning environment. The ultimate purpose of this effort is to achieve greater social justice in our community in which the work can be freely shared with the broader community. This is a renewable assignment that is designed to enable you to become an agent of change in your community through the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For this work, you will integrate the disciplines of Religion Education; Visual Communication Design to achieve SDG #10: Reduced Inequalities. Target 10.2: By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status.
Learning Objectives
After completing this assignment, students will be able to:
- Identify various forms of inequality present in society
- Analyze the root causes of identified inequalities
- Evaluate the impact of inequalities on different social groups
- Propose evidence-based solutions to address identified inequalities
Purpose/Rationale
This active learning practice aims to identify inequality happening in society and propose solutions.
Instructions
- Form pairs between Digital Imaging and Religion Education students
- Conduct research on inequalities related to SDG 10, 5, and 6 in your local community
- Document examples of inequality through photographs or other visual means
- Analyze the causes and impacts of the identified inequalities
- Develop proposals for addressing the inequalities
- Present findings and proposals in an online discussion
