Creating Awareness among Community on Climate Action

Introduction
You are a part of a global effort to increase access to education and empower students through “open pedagogy.” Open pedagogy is a “free access” educational practice that places you – the student – at the center of your own learning process in a more engaging, collaborative learning environment. The ultimate purpose of this effort is to achieve greater social justice in our community in which the work can be freely shared with the broader community. This is a renewable assignment that is designed to enable you to become an agent of change in your community through the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). For this work, you will integrate the disciplines of Critical Thinking; Philosophy; International Relations to achieve SDG #13: Climate Action. Target 13.1: Resilience and Adaptive Community on Climate Change
Learning Objectives
- Understand the basics of climate change and its impacts
- Analyze local climate issues and their effects on communities
- Develop strategies for raising awareness about climate action
- Create effective communication materials for community engagement
- Evaluate the effectiveness of climate action awareness campaigns
Purpose/Rationale
The learning is design to improve analytical skill, increase awareness and communication to public and peers. The artifact created through the assignment is designed to be shared in the student’s social media platforms.
Instructions
- Form groups of maximum 3 students
- Identify and analyze local climate issues
- Develop an awareness campaign strategy
- Create communication materials (e.g., posters, videos, social media content)
- Present the campaign to the class
