Introduction

You are a part of a global effort to increase access to education and empower students through “open pedagogy.”  Open pedagogy is a “free access” educational practice that places you – the student – at the center of your own learning process in a more engaging, collaborative learning environment.  The ultimate purpose of this effort is to achieve greater social justice in our community in which the work can be freely shared with the broader community.  This is a renewable assignment that is designed to enable you to become an agent of change in your community through the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  For this work, you will integrate the disciplines of English Education; Psychology to achieve SDG #4: Quality Education. Target 4.4: By 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship

Learning Objectives

After completing this assignment, students will be able to:

  • Analyze complex issues related to SDG 4 and SDG 8
  • Construct logical and evidence-based arguments
  • Evaluate opposing viewpoints critically
  • Create persuasive argumentative products in various formats

Purpose/Rationale

Students will not only excel in English education but also develop critical thinking skills essential for various disciplines.

Instructions

  • Choose a topic related to SDG 4 or SDG 8
  • Conduct thorough research on the chosen topic
  • Develop a clear thesis statement and supporting arguments
  • Create an argumentative product in one of the following forms:
    • Argumentative essay
    • Poster
    • Video
  • Incorporate evidence and counterarguments in your product
  • Present your argumentative product to the class

Format Requirements

  • Argumentative essay: Maximum 1000 words, submitted in PDF format
  • Poster: Digital format, size A2
  • Video: 5-7 minutes in length, MP4 format
