UNIT 6: HYPOTHESIS TESTING PRELIMINARIES

Confidence intervals were used in previous modules to estimate population parameters. In this unit, we will explore the basics of making decisions about a population parameter using an extremely important statistical technique called hypothesis testing.

TOPICS COVERED
  • Given a claim about a population (or populations), determine Null and Alternative Hypotheses
  • Differentiate between Type I and Type II Errors
  • Describe hypothesis testing in general and in practice
  • Discriminate between problems applying the normal and the Student’s t distributions
  • Use p-values to make decisions and conclusions related to hypothesis testing
