12.2 Scatter Plots

Scatterplots

A popular way of displaying relationships between two quantitative variables is called a scatterplot.

Constructing Scatterplots

When you look at a scatterplot, you want to notice the overall pattern and any deviations from the pattern. In this chapter, we will focus on scatterplots that show linear pattern, which we’ll model with a line. We can then use the equation of the model line to predict the response variable values for given values of the explanatory variable.
