27 Virtual Mini-Module Creation Challenge
Michaela Pacesova
Learning Objectives
Students will collaboratively create OER resources that will be used in an online self-paced course to teach Computer Concepts as a Z-course to future MC students as well as in a shorter version to anyone in the community and around the world who is interested in learning about computer concepts. Dual-enrollment students will have an opportunity to share their work with MCPS faculty to showcase in their high schools (and possibly with MCPS middle-school faculty to promote the CS program to the younger students).
Purpose/Rationale
Instructions
Students will be divided into groups of three. I’ll mix students based on their background and major (mix novice students with those more experienced, mix CS majors with non-CS majors). Each group will pick a topic from a list of topics covered in the course. Each group will pick an activity they’ll create for this topic. The activity has to be virtual, self-paced, less than 10 minutes, and has to either teach or assess students’ knowledge on the topic they picked.
Format Requirements
The activity has to be up to 10 minutes long and no less than 5 minutes long. Students will use a list of recommended computer applications and websites to create the activities/resources. Students will also take advantage of AI tools to help them with the project.
Rubric/Criteria
A rubric will be used to assess the students’ work. They’ll be assessed based on the content, creativity, and quality of their assignment.
