20 UN Resolution

Nathan Zook

Cohort 2023

Learning Objectives

Using supportive promotional infographics representing global awareness, develop a UN resolution that follows the UN resolution format.

Purpose/Rationale

Members of our Political Science advisory board work in governmental organizations that spend significant time developing similar policy resolutions. The skills and attention to detail will serve the students well in future careers of this nature.

Instructions

Experiential learning should be in evidence through listening to speeches from actual delegates to the UN. Open pedagogy will be in evidence through student’s choosing which military/security issue to prioritize based on the range of issues their assigned country has endorsed.

Format Requirements

This will be the most specific, detailed, and longest sentence you will ever write. Follow the UN resolution format distributed in class to create this sentence with appropriate preambular clauses and operative clauses. Notice the diplomatic logic involved – the first 3-5 preambular clauses should provide an introduction and show the precedents that support this resolution. The last 3-5 numbered operative clauses are the “meat” of the proposal. They provide specific policies that the country wants the UN Security Council to adopt in regard to your chosen issue. Be sure to follow similar formatting and punctuation to the template provided in class. In addition, 5 infographics should be developed and submitted to illustrate the detailed substance of the proposed policy solutions.

Rubric/Criteria

This will count as 5% of your total grade or 25 points. Up to ten points will be designated for the level of attention to detail in proposed solutions. Up to ten points will be designated for attention to punctuation, verbiage, and formatting of the resolution. Up to 5 points will be assigned for accurately providing the “voice” of your assigned country through the attached infographics.
