Learning Objectives
Goal: Guide students through the academic use of Chat GPT as a writing tool.
Purpose/Rationale
Students gain valuable digital literacy skills and insights into their future academic writing.
Instructions
- Students navigate to the Student Lingo lesson: 5 Tips for Using Generative AI (Chat GPT) as a helpful Academic Tool This 10-minute lesson module provides a step-by-step method for using generative AI ethically. It highlights generative AI use for brainstorming / researching, writing / editing assistant, helping with writer’s block, and creating additional study materials.
- Students submit their certificate of completion in Bb. The submission will be graded and calculated in the module assignment.
- Students will utilize Chat GPT as writing assistants. Students will use Chat GPT to generate an introduction and conclusion based on the body paragraphs of an original composition they have written / submitted and have received my comments / feedback.
- Student reflection Students will reflect on the similarities / differences of the Chat GPT version and their original intro / conclusion. They will post a video response through VoiceThread or YuJa Bb.
Format Requirements
Materials: Student Lingo learning resource, graded original composition with the professor’s feedback / comments.
Rubric/Criteria
Certificate of Completion is pass / no pass; the video reflection is based on their critical thinking and oral communication skills
