Learning Objectives
Course Objective: Recognize the components of the communication process and the types of communication in which human beings engage (one-on-one, group and public speaking). Students will attend a Montgomery College theatre performance, and then, using Figma (a free diagram tool), draw out a scene according to a communication studies concept, such as the Transactional Model or Dialectical Theory.
Purpose/Rationale
Instructions
This is part of a greater Interpersonal Theatre Assignment, wherein students watch a Montgomery College theatre production with the class and then write out a 2–4-page paper describing 3 communication studies concepts, and how they relate to the production. One of the concepts is to be included in the paper as a diagram/drawing; one is to be discussed in light of an actor’s visit to the classroom; the last is to be discussed in light of the actual theatre performance.
Format Requirements
2–4-page paper; 2 sources (one of which is the interview with a production actor); 3 communication studies discussed-one as a diagram based on the play; another as a reelection of an actor’s perspective; one based on the actual performance.
Rubric/Criteria
A 100-point rubric will be used to assess the following: 2 sources are included; minimum page count; grammatically succinct.
