Learning Objectives

Course Objective:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of cultural patterns, social institutions, and social processes at societal and global levels. Module Objectives:
  • LO1: Explain the relationship between culture & the social world.
  • LO2: Describe the impact of culture on society, social status, and stratification. Co-construction of a class Padlet sharing cultural objects, traditions, and/or norms. Each entry must include a photo & audio or video with audio (YouTube may be utilized to create). By the end of the activity students should be able to identify, articulate, and apply key cultural concepts from/ in their own daily lived experiences as well as those of their peers. By engaging in this activity students will acquire and/or apply cross-cultural communication, collaboration, critical thinking and analysis skills, as well as learn to create and share content via the digital content tool Padlet.

Purpose/Rationale

Students act as co-creators & consumers throughout the project. The end result is an archive that can continue to be built upon over multiple semesters. Students will carry what they learn from their peers’ cultures beyond the classroom- heightening cultural awareness and an engagement with cultural relativism in hopes of minimizing ethnocentric and xenophobic reactions to cultures different from their own. Students engage with OER material via the course module before participating in an experiential learning activity in which they demonstrate their understanding of the key concepts and material through creating and consuming content with their peers.
