Learning Objectives
Course Objectives: Demonstrate the ability to write and think critically about the various styles of Rock Music; Articulate the impact of cultural and socio-political issues and its impacts on music and the listeners. – Students should be familiar with the application of the Five Themes as related to various aspects of music, both historical and contemporary, as well as cultural and social influence and relevance.
Purpose/Rationale
Instructions
Select a topic of your choice, from the music-era we’re studying, find an analogous contemporary example, and briefly summarize the relation between the two by using a connection to one of the “Five Themes” used in this course. The assignment is in the form of an encyclopedic entry as a Blackboard Wiki. At least one source should be used, and at least one source should be from an MC Library Database, and any and all sources must be cited. Students are required to complete the MC Library tutorials on Academic Integrity, Avoiding Plagiarism, and Information Ethics at the beginning of the semester as part of the “Getting Started” course orientation activities.
Format Requirements
The assignment format is a well-written paragraph entry to Blackboard Wiki in the form of an Encyclopedic Entry and must include a picture or video representative of the topic. Citations for all sources *must* be included. Once the entry is made, please comment on two peer’s posts with: one comment or one question; and a connection to another contemporary topic related to the original post.
Rubric/Criteria
Assessment is completed with a comprehensive rubric that covers; depth of content knowledge; connections to the themes; academic integrity; responses to peers.
