40 Revisiting The Miranda Decision

Learning Objectives

Students will use this assignment to examine how much the general public are aware of their individual civil rights when engaging with law enforcement. 

Purpose/Rationale

Instructions

Students will conduct “man on the street interviews” and provide an overview of the Supreme Court’s Miranda v. Arizona’s decision, which established that an individual must know their rights when they are in custody with Law Enforcement. 

Format Requirements

Students will create a small video documentary explaining the Miranda decision and examining how well individuals are familiar with their civil rights under this decision. The Video, complete with interview vignettes, should be no longer than 30 minutes in length. 

Rubric/Criteria

Assessment criteria are how well-formulated the questions used in interviewing; how effective the presentation is, student participation and involvement in developing the content of the documentary.
