58 Research Paper: Linguistic Aspects of a Language

Carolyn Castro

Cohort 2024

Learning Objectives

For the signature assignment of the course (HIP: capstone project), student will demonstrate intellectual honesty by writing a research paper (HIP: undergraduate research) that describes a language of their choice (HIP: open pedagogy) in terms of its core linguistic aspects, e.g., phonology, morphology, syntax, or semantics (SLO 6)

Purpose/Rationale

The research paper signature assignment for LING 200 is a renewable assignment because it provides students with the opportunity to contribute to the Outstanding Student Writings in the Disciplines, an online publication featuring MC students’ exemplary writing in all the disciplines taught at Montgomery College. https://info.montgomerycollege.edu/resources/writing-in-the-disciplines/outstanding-student-writings.html The website highlights the diversity of styles and types of academic writing at MC. For LING 200 students, the research papers featured on this website can serve as models as they write their own research papers. Students whose paper is nominated for inclusion on the website will be asked to sign a release form as part of this process: https://www.montgomerycollege.edu/_documents/offices/elite/student-release-of-course-materials.pdf
